SUMTRAIC has been a wonderful two weeks immersive experience in the world of nuclear fusion. After a day of lectures, covering all the basics you need to know to work on site, you get to throw yourself in a stimulating project that allows you to test your knowledge and capabilities. The supervisors and the whole staff are very friendly and helpful, creating a positive work environment.
The school is also structured as to favour socialisation with other colleagues, from all over the world. During our free time we had a lot of fun around Prague, visiting its beauties and tasting its excellent beers!

Sumtraic is a great experience for those who would like to be a fusion scientist. Although there are plenty of things that can be learned about plasma phenomena, diagnostics and simulations, our supervisors thaught us how to investigate scientific results, and how to present them. Besides that the other students were very interesting and friendly, we keep in touch with several of them. If that were not enough, Praha is a really impressive city with inimitable atmosphere, deep history, and excellent beers, thus it is truly worth to visit.

What I liked more about SUMTRAIC is that we had to work on open research topics, not arranged just for educational purposes. And the fact that what we studied sits on the edge of current scientific understanding made things even more fascinating and our research even more challenging.
During my stay in Prague the SUMTRAIC group created a true and deep bond. It was so great to share two weeks with an easy-going, smart and such interesting group of students with similar and yet so different background as mine. We worked side by side, but we also spent together the best nights in front of a Pilsner in one of the several bars right under the corner of our hotel and the weekend sightseeing the castle, charles bridge and the nicest spots in the lively city centre.
This experience really let me give me a glance at true challenges for future magnetic fusion devices. It got me craving for research and in fact I’ll carry out my master thesis research in Prague.

SUMTRAIC is an excellent chance to deepen your fusion related knowledge by working on individual projects and to get to know not only the scientists from the IPP in Prague, but also fusion interested students from all over the world. I myself was working on the comparison of neutron measurements previously obtained during COMPASS operation with openMC modelling. In addition to the academic experience it has also been a great pleasure to spend the evenings and the weekend with the other congenial participants for instance by experiencing the Czech cuisine or by exploring the beautiful city of Prague. To anyone interested in attending a future SUMTRAIC, I highly recommend doing so! Many thanks to Jordan Cavalier for organizing the summer school and to the other participants for making the event the experience it was!
