Welcome to the SUMTRAIC 2026 website

event founded in 2003 by Jan Stöckel

SUMTRAIC is a 2-week SUMmer TRAIning Course in plasma physics and, in particular, in magnetic confinement fusion devices (tokamaks). It is organised annually at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (IPP Prague).

The event is open to all students, from undergraduate to PhD candidates.

During SUMTRAIC, participants will:

• Get assigned a real scientific topic: assignments are active areas of research currently being investigated by IPP staff
• Experience the daily life of a scientist: data analysis, experiments, simulation, presentation making
• Work in collaborative group: with one or two other participants and with supervisors from the IPP team
• Present their scientific achievement within a broad audience (~40 people) in English at the closing ceremony of the event
